The Season of 2017 is on! Today the Youth section started with the trainings after the Christmas break. The Seniors (men and ladies) are also in sessions. Mid-week match against Vänersborg RK ladies was the usual tough affair that we always come to expect. Unfortunately the squad would be down a few players which would have a few musical chairs during the 80 minutes which , due to strong first up tackles, provided yet another 80 minutes of working inches as opposed to meters. 14 players and a baby sitter

Saturday and the GRF ladies, or 14 players and a baby sitter to be exact, headed south to take on the Skåne regional team. Unfortunately due to injuries and explanations, the squad could just about muster up a complete team but would have no bench in a development comp.which allows rolling subs. weather conditions were extremely hot and sunny which was a huge positive considering the weather that struck Skåne on the sunday. The summer break is over and the autumn season starts this week. The summer has seen our Ladies win the Swedish Championship and our Men take on a Touring Welsh team. The club would like to thank Neil Johnson for his work around the Welsh game and putting up a strong Regional team. The youth section starts their trainings this week. The club is very proud of our Ladies team. They went up to Norrköping and defended their gold medal from last year. The Ladies are a hard working team with a mix of new and experienced players. SMVeckan is on the horizon

SMVeckan is on the horizon and through some tough qualifying both mens and ladies teams will be heading north to compete for the SM 7's championship. The West Coast Vikings once again managed to reach the top end of the group stages by beating the Finnish national side in their first game on the saturday. Quite a resounding performance that finished 24-7. After a long day of sevens at Lexby IP the GRF mens squad secured a top four placing to ensure a place at the SMVeckan in Norrköping in July. The first game against Pingvin RC would be fought in damp conditions and despite doing every right and having a very good performance, unforced errors gave the victory to PRC, late in the second half. This weekend the club will be heading over to the other side of town and to Partille where Spartacus RUFC will host round two of the ladies sevens qualifier and the semi-finals for the Mens qualification towards the Swedish SM finals that will be held in Norrköping during the SMVeckan in july.
